Conversion Tracking Events

Define custom events to track in the Conversion Tracking Event Manager.

Conversion Tracking Events are the specific event types you wish to track.  This is defined in the conversion link with the parameter 'e'.  Two types of events exist:

  • Reserved Events

Reserved Events are defined by the system.  These default events are known to be useful for nearly any purpose.  At this time, the only Reserved Event is Sale.  The Sale event has additional data storage for Sale Price and reporting of Sale Totals, as seen in the Conversion Tracking Reporting page.

  • Customer Defined Events

Customer Defined Events are events that you can configure to use in any way.  These events can also be used to store Price data, but will not appear in the Sale reporting.  Some examples of custom events include cart abandonment or simple page visits.

Accessing Conversion Tracking Events

Conversion Tracking Events are accessed from the Reports menu.  To access the Events, go to REPORTS > CONVERSION TRACKING > CONFIGURE EVENTS.  This will open the Conversion Tracking Event Manager page.

The Event Manager page displays a list of all existing Conversion Tracking Events separated by Reserved and Custom Events.  This page allows you to define a new Event, edit or delete existing Events, and view quick statistics about each event.  You can sort the events by clicking the header of each column.

The details displayed for each Event include:

The name of the Event to be used in the Conversion Tracking URL.  The name should not be longer than 16 characters and cannot contain spaces or special characters.

Description of the Event, used in reports.

Total number of instances the Event has been tracked.

Click DELETE to delete the Event.  Reserved Events cannot be deleted.

To Define a Custom Event

  1. Go to REPORTS > CONVERSION TRACKING > CONFIGURE EVENTS.  The Conversion Tracking Event Manager page will display.
  2. Click Define New Event.  This will display the Add Event page.
  3. Enter an Event Name of 16 characters or less.  Do not include space or special characters other than underscore (_) or dash (-).  Spaces and special characters will break the Conversion Tracking code you will add to your page later.
  4. Enter a Description
  5. Click CREATE to save the Event.  Click CANCEL to return to the Event Manager page without saving the Event.

To Edit an Event

You can change the name or description of an existing Event by clicking the Event Name.  Make the change to the Name and/or Description and then click UPDATE to save the change.  Click CANCEL to return to the Event Manager page without saving the Event.

WARNING:  If you change the Event Name, you must be sure to update the event name in your Conversion Tracking URLs on your site.  If your Event Name does not match the name in your URL, the event will not be tracked for reporting.

To Delete an Event

To delete an Event, click DELETE in the table next to the Event.  You will not be prompted to confirm.  This will delete the Event but not the existing tracking data.  However, reporting on the data will be difficult as there will be no name to associate to the data in the report.

WARNING:  If you delete the Event, you must be sure to remove the associated Conversion Tracking URLs from your site.  If your Event Name does not match the name in your URL, the event will not be tracked for reporting, but it will still cause unnecessary traffic to the Conversion Tracking site.
