Question

How do I create a segmentation rule to pull only the subscribers who have opened an email but not clicked on any links in the last 'X' months?

Answer

The following example uses the Standard Segmentation to create a rule that will target only the subscribers who opened an email but not clicked on any links in the last 3 months.

  1. Go to LISTS > SEGMENTATION > CREATE STANDARD RULE
  2. Enter a Name
  3. Enter an optional Description
  4. Create condition #1 for the Event Date range:
    • Select a field: Tracking Event Date
    • Select the Date Sub-Type: Months Between
    • Set the Date: Today (this is a string to dynamically use today's date)
    • Select an Operator: less than or equal sign (<=)
    • Enter a Value: 3
  5. Click ADD CONDITION to create a new condtion.
  6. Create condition #2 for the Event Type:
    • Select a field: Tracking Event Type
    • Select an Operator: =
    • Select a Value: Read Message
  7. Click ADD CONDITION to create a new condtion.
  8. Create condition #3 for the Event Date range to look exactly the same as condition #1.
  9. Create condition #4 for the for the Event Type:
    • Select a field: Tracking Event Type
    • Select an Operator: =
    • Select a Value: Clicked on URL
  10. Drag condition #2 and drop on condition #1
  11. Drag condition #4 and drop on condition #3
  12. Set the top condition type to NOT.
  13. Click SAVE.

Your rule should appear as follows:

This segmentation rule will find all subscribers who had open but no clickthrough events in the last 3 months in any campaign on the realm. To limit the activity to a specific list, you can add another condition with the Tracking List ID to each of your condition groups like this:
