Templates are the main repository for content sent to contacts. Everything the contact receives in your email message is created through the content and formatting defined in the Template.
The Template system is flexible. Each Template can contain formatting for plain-text, HTML, and/or Mobile content. You can create several Templates and select a different one for each Campaign, or you can create a single dynamic Template that will pull data depending on logic parameters you have defined.
Templates support Plain Text or HTML formatted content. A third option allows you to define HTML content to display in Mobile browsers.
Content in a Template can be added several ways:
- Import
- Type directly into text area
- Copy from external location and Paste into text area
You can also use the WYSIWYG editor to create HTML content or pull content into the template using the Get tags.
Note: Documents created in applications such as Microsoft Word™ may include characters that are not recognized when entered into the Template. For example, em-dash and curly quote characters may be replaced with another symbol. To help ensure your characters are recognizable when importing or pasting, save your content as a Plain-Text file, select US-ASCII encoding, and allow character substitutions.
Accessing Templates
Templates are accessed from the Content menu. To access the Templates, go to CONTENT > VIEW TEMPLATES. This will open the Templates page.
The Templates page displays a list of Templates, allowing you to create a new Template, preview, or edit existing Templates. You may sort the data in any of the columns by clicking the column header.

Managing Templates
in addition to adding and editing Templates, you can also manage the accessibility of Templates.
Delete Multiple
To delete multiple Templates:
- Select the checkbox next to each Template you wish to delete.
- Click DELETE.
- A popup will appear allowing you to verify. Click YES to delete the selected templates; click NO to cancel deletion.
NOTE: Deleting a template will remove it and all the content associated with it from the system. Deleted Templates cannot be recovered as they are completely deleted from the system. A/B Definitions and scheduled Campaigns with a deleted Template associated will fail on deployment. However, Archived versions of campaign messages that have been sent will not be affected, as these are stored separately.
Move to Folder
Folders allow you to organize Templates, making it easy to sort and find Templates in multiple areas of the platform. For instance, when you need to select a Template to deploy a campaign, all active Templates are displayed in the Templates listbox in alphanumeric order. However, if you have Templates organized by some logical grouping, such as Newsletters vs. Daily Deal, you can use the Browse feature and select your Template from the specific Folder.
To move multiple Templates to a folder:
- Select the checkbox next to each Template you wish to move.
- From the Move to listbox, select the Folder into which to store the Templates.
- Click MOVE.
- A popup will appear allowing you to verify. Click YES to move the selected templates; click NO to cancel move.
Archive Templates
The Archive feature allows you to hide items that are no longer relevant but which you may need to retain for future reference. The ability to Archive items is especially helpful when it becomes difficult to find an item in a listbox because of the number of active items. Archiving unneeded items also improves the loading speed of pages in which you can select an item, such as selecting a Template in Edit List or Schedule Campaign.
Archiving a Template marks the Template as inactive, hiding it from use in the platform. Archived templates are not available to select in features such as Deploy Campaign and A/B Definitions, therefore you cannot send campaigns using an archived Template. However, you can still view, edit, copy, and delete Archived Templates in the View Templates page. You can also use the Folders option to filter archived Templates by Folder.
To access archived Templates, click SHOW ARCHIVED. To access active Templates when archived Templates are displayed, click SHOW ACTIVE.
To archive (hide) multiple Templates:
- Select the checkbox next to each Template you wish to archive.
- Click ARCHIVE.
- A popup will appear allowing you to verify. Click YES to archive the selected templates; click NO to cancel archive.
To activate (unhide) multiple Templates:
- Click SHOW ARCHIVED to see all archived Templates.
- Select the checkbox next to each Template you wish to activate.
- Click UNARCHIVE.
- A popup will appear allowing you to verify. Click YES to activate the selected templates; click NO to cancel.
