Event reports differ from Campaign Reports in that they report on contacts who have taken specific actions (opens, clicks, unsubscribes) on a campaign or group of campaigns. Frequently, customers use Event Reports to identify contacts who have unsubscribed or opted out from a grouping of campaigns, or creating exports of engaged contacts who have clicked or engaged with a similar grouping of campaigns.
To access the tool, select Event Wizard from the Generate Report sub-heading found under the Reports heading in the navigation menu.
The result set from these reports will be created as a text file of Comma Separated Values (CSV), alternative delimiters can be selected as well.
Please note that due to size limitations, reports generated through this tool are not available to be sent via email.
Preparing To Use The Feature
- Before using the Event Wizard you must have deployed at least one campaign.
- Knowing the Campaign Details (Campaign Name, List Name, Date) will assist in finding the desired results
Select Campaigns
The Campaign Date option pulls events associated with specific campaigns. Your results will only include events associated with the chosen campaigns. The Event Date options pulls events which occurred during a specified time range. This includes all events regardless of which campaigns they are connected to.
You can further refine search results by searching for a specific keyword in the List or Campaign Name, or minimum number of emails deployed in the campaign.
Once you have defined the search criteria clicking Next will allow you to select from the results.
Select Reporting Attributes
The next heading under the Event Wizard allows you to select what Contact Data will be included in the Event Wizard Export. Each tracked event will be linked to an email contact, the first screen allows you to specify which fields in addition to email address (included by default) will appear in the results. Each field added here will appear as a new column in the CSV export.
Clicking next will allow you to select which tracking events will be included in the CSV export. Tracking events have been grouped into three headings, tracking, and other.
Each selection from these headings will be represented as a new column in the exported CSV file.
Tracking allows including traditional email tracking and behavioral actions such as opens, clicks, sends, unsubscribe, bounce, to be included as a part of the exported report.
Other allows the ability to include Campaign Details such as Campaign ID, Email Subject, Name, to be included in the report, to allow for easier identification of campaigns.
Custom allows including information related to custom fields to be appended as a part of the exported CSV file.
Add To List
You may optionally add contacts who match the selected reporting criteria to a new or existing list, options for this are available before finalizing the report.
Finalize
From this final screen you can select the final export options including file type, file name, date format, and other file attributes.
Accessing Reporting Results
Depending on the number of campaigns and attributes in your report it may take a few moments to process. Once the report is running you can continue using the platform and view the result sets at any time.
To access Report Wizard results, select the File Manager from the Reports heading in the Navigation Menu
From this screen select the reports folder, and search for the name used in the Finalize step to download your report.
Scheduling Roll-Up Reporting
When accessing the Report Wizard from the Calendar functionality of the WhatCounts platform, you are presented with a slightly different date selector. This feature will allow you to schedule a grouping of campaigns in advance of their deployment. This is helpful for preparing a cumulative weekly or monthly roll-up of email campaigns across all marketing efforts. Let’s take a quick look at how to schedule a weekly roll-up report.
On the first screen you can select the cumulative number of days to combine campaigns from in generating your report. You can select a maximum of 31 days
The following screens will guide you through the same series of steps of selecting attributes as we saw in steps 2 through 5 of this documentation. Wizards scheduled to run in the future will run a roll-up report of campaigns using the reporting criteria selected, with the option to upload results via FTP/SFTP if desired.
