The Campaigns page provides you with a central place to analyze the performance of your WhatCounts automators and ESP-driven WhatCounts campaigns. From this page you can view and manage your existing campaigns or set up a new WhatCounts automator.
Understanding Campaign Performance
- Type - What kind of campaign it is.
- Status - What the campaign’s status is (active, paused, etc).
- Sends - How many emails from the Campaign were successfully delivered in the timeframe selected.
- Clicks - How many recipients clicked on the emails sent to them in the timeframe selected.
- Conversions - How many recipients made a purchase from the Campaign in the timeframe selected.
- Revenue (RPE) - How much revenue the Campaign is responsible for, along with how much revenue each email delivered is responsible for.
Click View Details on a campaign to see the metrics broken down per email in the series.
Campaign Controls
- View - Allows you to view the setup of the campaign, but not edit it.
- Edit - Pauses the campaign from sending emails and allows you to edit the settings / content.
- Copy - Creates an exact copy of the campaign, including settings, styling and content.
- Activate - Allows you activate a paused campaign.
- Pause - Pauses the campaign from sending emails.
- Download - Creates a .csv output that contains the tracking codes, revenue and conversions of the campaign.
- Archive - Archives the campaign, meaning it will no longer show on the Campaigns page, will no longer be able to send emails, and will be excluded from Campaigns reporting.
Filtering and Sorting
- Activation Date - View campaigns chronologically by activation date. If the campaign was paused and re-activated, the original activation date is what is sorted on.
- Conversions - View campaigns by the number of successful conversions (purchases) WhatCounts can attribute to the campaign.
- Revenue - View campaigns by the total revenue the campaign has generated as of your store’s most recent update.
You can also filter campaigns by campaign type or activation status.

Common Questions About the Campaigns Page
Answer: If a coupon is not showing up under the details of an Automator, it is probably because it hasn’t been used in a conversion yet. If you believe this is not the case, please let our Client Success Team know and they can look into it.
Question: What does “try it” mean next to an automator?
Answer: If you have “try it” beside an automator, it means this module has not been activated for your account. You have the ability to go through the automator setup without sending active emails.
Question: Do the sends, click and conversions conform to the date frame I am viewing?
Answer: Yes, but sends, clicks, and conversions don’t necessarily occur on the same day. In some cases, you may see more clicks than sends based on the date range. For example, the date the email was sent may be outside of the selected range, but the date someone clicked is inside the selected range. You could see 0 sends but 4 clicks.
Question: If I create a campaign within my ESP using WhatCounts data and/or segments, will I be able to track opens, clicks, and revenue in WhatCounts?
Answer: No, you will only be able to see these performance metrics within your ESP.
Question: Can I see revenue generated from my WhatCounts Automators from within my ESP?
Answer: WhatCounts Automator revenue tracking is only available from within the app; we do not send that data anywhere outside of WhatCounts.
Question: Are tax and shipping included in my revenue reporting in WhatCounts?
Answer: No, WhatCounts intentionally does not include tax or shipping costs. It’s not a revenue stream for most retailers, so we exclude it from our calculations.
Question: How does WhatCounts attribute revenue for campaigns created in WhatCounts?
Answer: WhatCounts uses Google Analyics campaign codes to track revenue. Any revenue associated with the Google Analytics campaign codes tied to those automators will be attributed.
Question: If one of my customers uses the same coupon code in multiple emails across the same series and the code is mapped to the tracking codes in WhatCount's system, does WhatCounts attribute the revenue relative to the email the customer received?
Answer: Yes, Google Analytics tracking helps prevent over-reporting. The only scenario where we'd over-report is when there's a single purchase with two different coupons and no Google Analytics tracking has been employed.
Question: Can I delete automated campaigns that previously have been activated?
Answer: Campaigns that were previously activated cannot be deleted due to the metrics tied to those campaigns. Email Marketing Service Providers (ESPs) do not allow you to delete previous campaigns either.
