Email Preview allows you to view your email content and verify how it will render across various email clients. After you create your content, you can submit a request to generate a preview based on the content from a selected Template, the From and Reply To addresses and List Attributes from a List, and the personalization data of a specific Subscriber.
Email Preview is part of the Deliverability functionality and must be enabled for your Realm. It requires a contract to access the Mail Monitor reports. Please contact your Account Manager or the Delivery Services team for more information.
Available Reports
To determine the number of reports available in your Realm, go to CONTENT > EMAIL PREVIEW WIZARD. On the left side of the wizard form, the number of reports remaining for use in the realm is displayed.
Submitting an Email Preview Request
To submit a request to generate Email Preview:
- Go to CONTENT > EMAIL PREVIEW WIZARD. If no reports are available, you will not be able to continue in the wizard.
- Select the Template containing your content.
NOTE: Email Preview unique identity is based on the Email Subject and the Date. If you submit multiple Email Preview requests in the same day, make sure the Subject is unique for each request. - Select a List of message properties and List Attributes to include. What is a List Attribute?
- Select an Account Profile to use. What is an Account Profile?
- Enter an Email address and First Name of a Subscriber to the selected List. The selected Subscriber's data will fill the personalization tags in the content.
NOTE: A copy of the email will be sent to this Subscriber. - Click NEXT to continue.
- Confirm the content in the preview, Click NEXT if the content is correct, click PREVIOUS to go back to make changes to the selections.
- Confirm the settings, then click FINISH. Click PREVIOUS to go back to make changes. Once submitted, the Email Preview Results page is displayed.
To submit a request to generate Email Preview from within a Template:
- Go to CONTENT > TEMPLATES.
- From the ACTIONS button next to the Template, select PREVIEW. Alternately, click the Template to open for editing, then click PREVIEW. The Preview will display in a new window.
- Click SHOW / HIDE PREVIEW OPTIONS in upper left of the window.
- Enter an Email address and First Name of a Subscriber to the selected List. The selected Subscriber's data will fill the personalization tags in the content.
- Select a List of message properties and List Attributes to include. What is a List Attribute?
- Select a Profile to use. What is an Account Profile?
- Click REFRESH CONTENT to preview the Template with the selected content.
- Click EMAIL PREVIEW to submit the request to generate results. The number of available reports is displayed next to the left. If no reports are available, a note will appear to the left, "No email preview reports available."
Accessing Email Preview Results
Email Preview results are accessed from the Content menu. Go to CONTENT > EMAIL PREVIEW RESULTS to open the Email Preview Results page.
The Email Preview Results page lists all submitted requests, including those run in past versions and those still awaiting results. It displays the Created date, Template Name, Subject, and the number of previews Rendered. You may sort the data in any of the columns by clicking the column header. The details displayed for each list include:

Viewing Email Preview Images
To view the results of an Email Preview request:
- Go to CONTENT > EMAIL PREVIEW RESULTS.
- Click the Template Name of the generated preview. The Preview page will display.
Due to the nature of loading images, the page may take some time to fully render. The page will refresh automatically as new preview images are rendered.
NOTE: Occasional differences in the number of Rendered previews will occur due to modifications by the tested ISP. You can expect to see a normal range of 12 to 16 images, with more possible as other ISPs are added.
Preview Page
The Preview page displays the name of the Template used to generate the images. To return to the Email Preview Results page, click Back to results list.
The following details indicate the specifics of the rendered content:
- Images Rendered / Total: Number of image previews rendered
- Template Name / ID: Name and Identifier of the rendered Template content
- List Name / ID: Name and Identifier of the List containing the List Attributes values rendered in the content
- Account Profile Name / ID: Name and Identifier of the Account Profile values rendered in the content
The image previews displayed are separated by device type, such as Web-Based browsers, or operating system. To find specific images, or images that share a commonality, use the Filter. For example, find all images that render with Gmail browser or app.
Click an image preview to display the full image in a separate window.
