Suppression Lists

A Suppression List is a text file of email addresses which can be used to clean a List before deploying a campaign.  The Suppression feature is useful to temporarily prevent sending to specific contacts.  If you need to prevent sending to the same contacts for multiple campaigns, you may wish to use Segmentation Rules or opt out the contacts.

Accessing Suppression Lists

Suppression Lists are accessed from the Lists menu.  To access the Suppression Lists, go to LISTS > SUPPRESSION.  This will open the Suppression Lists page.

The Suppression Lists page displays a list of all existing Suppression Lists, allowing you to create a new Suppression List or update an existing Suppression List.

The details displayed for each Suppression List include:

Name

The name of the Suppression List.

Description

A short description of the list or its purpose.

Size

The size of the .txt file.

Global

If the file is shared with child realms, a check icon will appear.

MD5

If the file is MD5 encrypted, a check icon will appear.

Suppress

Click the gear icon to Suppress contacts manually.

Required File Format

The Suppression List File must be a text (.txt) file.  Other file types are not supported.

Email Addresses must be separated by carriage returns (new line).   Special characters such as colons and semi-colons are not supported in the text file.   The only special characters you should use are those supported by email addresses, such as ampersand, period, underscore, and plus.

The Suppression List File should include only Email Addresses of the contacts to suppress.

Contact by Email Address

An email address must use the following format:

username@domain.xxx

For example, myemail@hotmail.com suppresses all contacts with the exact email address in the campaign.

Contacts by Email Domain

To suppress all contacts from a specific domain, use a wildcard instead of the specific username:

*@domain.xxx

For example, *@hotmail.com suppresses all contacts with any email address that ends with the Hotmail domain including myemail@hotmail.com, youraccount@hotmail.com, and first.last@hotmail.com.
